It's a sort of Elizabethan take on Girl Power.
Along the way, we meet a gallery of minor characters, a foul-smelling laundry basket,
the wily Mistress Quickly and a mildly demented, sword-wielding French doctor. AltReading
There was laughter from the audience when the enormous washing basket
(built by Mike Brand) was wheeled on stage, with one one of the trio saying nonchalantly:
‘Oh look, there's a basket’
The business of sneaking Falstaff away 'in' the basket was well choreographed as the trio mime their panic
and the old lech's legs are seen running beneath the basket to great comic effect. Jim McGuigan |
